Privacy Policy
This website isn’t intended as a means of obtaining information about you - it’s intended to allow you to find out about us. In general, we’re not interested in using personal or identifiable information about you, at all, unless you want us to. But to help you find out about us, we do collect some information.
What information do we collect?
Registered Users
If you register with the web site so that you can post comments we’ll collect at least an email address and a preferred name and password. The email address will be used by the system to provide you with a password, and to enable you to reset your password if you ever lose it. We will not, ever, use this email address for contacting you, unless you ask us to.
Contact Forms
There is a contact form on the web site. If you provide information here, we will use it to make contact with you, since that’s what it’s for. This information may be shared within the church, but only as necessary to respond to your enquiry. On occasion it makes sense to hang on to your information so that we can provide an update at a later date. We could say that we delete information as soon as it was dealt with, but that would be dishonest. St. Paul’s is largely a volunteer organisation, and getting people to delete emails and email addresses can be hard sometimes.
Access Logs
Every access to the site is logged by the web server and by Google Analytics on our behalf. This information is used exclusively for producing aggregate statistics about the use of the site, and for dealing with technical issues around the performance and function of the site. We do not wish to use this information to track individual users. We collect this data so that we can understand which parts of the site are more (or less) popular, where visitors come from, what keywords are used in searches that lead here. This helps us understand what leads people to the web site so that we can tweak it to make it more visible in the right places.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to keep track of the use of this website. The terms of use of this service requires us to make the following statement.
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States . Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.
If you think we shouldn’t be using a service like Google Analytics we’d be interested in hearing why.
